Ink Painting

Inspired by the new year, I've decided to experiment with different mediums.  While I will always feel deeply devoted to watercolor painting, I sense my remaining time abroad is the perfect opportunity to challenge myself and learn something new. Most recently, I began to explore the world of alcohol based ink. It is arguably one of the hottest art trends on social media right now and I was intrigued enough to try it myself.

This medium has been a challenge for me because I am not very confident in my abstract art abilities. I have been encouraging myself to "loosen up" with my large floral pieces, however, going wholly abstract is intimidating after spending several years training my brain to do the opposite.  

My favorite thing about this medium is the focus on color.  While it's difficult to predict the outcome of each piece, due to the ever-changing chemical reactions between alcohol and ink, I believe that the unique color combinations and negative spaces are imperative to making each piece successful.
